Public Safety Preparatory Academy (PSPA)

Academy Details:

The CSUF PSPA is a free, collaborative program between the Criminal Justice Department, the CSUF Police Department, and the Criminal Justice Student Association.

We partner with local criminal justice agencies to help:

Prepare inclusive empathetic leaders who are ready and able to make a difference in their future professional career 
Provide career and professional preparation to help develop career-ready and culturally competent law enforcement candidates
Prepare diverse students for the opportunity to competitively compete for career positions within the criminal justice system.
Build bridges with the community.

During the program's first year, candidates participate in an orientation process, leadership and career development workshops, ride-a-longs, field trip opportunities, physical fitness and resilience training, community service activities, and mentoring. For those wishing to continue, during the program's second year, candidates take CRJU 415- Policing the City (CRJU elective), participate in an internship (course credit available), participate in community service and leadership development activities, and participate in physical fitness training.

The program runs during the academic year on Thursdays from 4:00 - 6:30pm (no class during school breaks). You must be available to attend at this time to participate. We also have some community service and bonding activities 2-3 times per semester outside of these hours.

Eligibility:

Open to qualified undergraduates of all majors, sophomore standing and above, including new transfer students with an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher. Program participants will be subject to a background review (prior criminal history and/or pending criminal action may be a disqualifying factor).
